Appendix C — The twelve most common failure points
The mistakes that cost employers the most money and time, across every hiring scenario.
Across every scenario:
- Security bond effective date wrong. She is refused entry at Changi. MOM cannot amend it retrospectively. You send her home at your own cost.
- IPA particulars do not match her passport. Same outcome. Check character by character before she books.
- EOP not completed 2 working days before applying. Application stalls. First-time employers only.
- Name or NRIC mismatch between EOP registration and the Work Permit application. MOM's automatic record matching fails.
- Transfer started with under 30 days of permit validity. Ask the current employer for a short extension first.
- Transfer issuance deadline missed — 21 days from approval, or current permit expiry, whichever is earlier. Overstaying fine.
- SIP missed within 7 days of arrival. She cannot legally start work.
- Pre-employment medical missed within 14 days, or failed. The permit cannot be issued.
- 6ME overdue. Blocks a transfer, and a missed 6ME can get the permit revoked.
- Levy unpaid for two consecutive months. The permit is revoked the following month, and you are barred from future Work Permit applications.
- Source-country clearance not started early enough. The most common cause of multi-month delays on fresh hires from the Philippines, Indonesia and Myanmar.
- She works before the permit is issued. Illegal deployment under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act — including "just helping out" during a transfer gap.
